I have organized few Photowalks lately, and some people keep asking me for some tips and suggestion on how they could organize their own Photowalk in their cities.
The best way to explain to you how you can create your own Photowalk in your city, is telling you the story of my latest Photowalk.
I hope you read it all until the end, so you can truly understand the process of been a Photowalk Leader.
Few weeks ago, I was invited to be part of a Worldwide Photowalk. Worldwide Photowalk was a unique project with the goal of having simultaneous Photowalks in many cities around the world.
They asked me to be the Photowalk leader of not just one city, but of the whole South Florida area. I had the choice to choose whatever city of South Florida that I wanted.
For this Photowalk, I was thinking to find a nice route in South Beach. If you have been in South Beach you might understand my reasons; that is a beautiful city with nice streets, great old style architecture and beautiful beaches.
I started thinking about what I would need to do to make the South Florida Photowalk happen in South Beach. I thought about the streets, parking lots, restaurants to have the photographers together after the event and etc. The more that I thought, the more that I start changing my mind about that location.
Here in South Florida we have three major cities (Miami, Ft Lauderdale and Palm Beaches) being connected by dozen of other small cities. The city of Fort Lauderdale is almost half way between Miami and Palm Beaches, so I was getting concernedthat people from Palm Beaches or even Fort Lauderdale wouldn't drive to South Beach for this event. I also started get concerned about traffic, parking lots, restaurants overcrowded and etc.
After much thinking and driving (checking few different locations), I finally chose the actual location for our Photowalk. The city that I chose is a small city just north of Fort Lauderdale, and the Route that we are going to walk it is just perfect, with great restaurants, easy access, beautiful beach and an impressive Pier.
Have you heard the expression; Location, Location, Location? I knew that selecting a city that was half way between Miami and Palm Beaches would bring a lot more photographers to participate of this Worldwide Photowalk.
If you want to be a Photowalk Leader, the first step is finding a good location with plenty of parking spaces, good restaurants, great streets, bridges, railroad, parks, beaches, etc.
